The Face of Homelessness

On the night of January 28, 2009, the AHP's partner agencies and shelters conducted interviews with
549 heads of households, representing 985 people. 
 
Of these,

71% had at least a high school education/GED
66% were staying in a shelter
61% were single adult households
45% did not have a healthcare provider
41% were children
32% were female single parent households
31% were staying in transitional housing
31% were employed
30% reported having a long-term disability
13% had been in foster care as a child
13% were homeless as a child
9% were veterans
8% of the females were pregnant
7% had recently been released from jail
1% were staying on the street
